Naming Conventions

“Naming Conventions” apply to the names of Areas, Facilities, Locations, Systems, Points and Conditions. As described in 15956, these elements are joined together to form the labels applied to database objects in the EMCS and, where possible, in vendors’ field equipment. One reason why properly constructed names are so important is that they allow for searching for related objects in the database. If an operator wants to find all the field information related to chilled water in, for example, Comstock Hall, it is important that the facility not be named “Comstock” in some circumstances and “Academic II” in others. Similarly, “chilled water” systems should all use the system name “CW” and not “CHW” or “CWATER”. The following files contain the latest consensus names for each of the name elements.
